Carolina Canines for Service, Inc.
Carolina Canines for Service is a triple-win program using shelter dogs, trained to be service dogs by military prisoners to be provided to wounded and injured veterans. The program serves as rehabilitative and job skills training for military prisoners and saves dogs destined for euthanasia. The dogs are trained to assist wounded veterans dealing with mobility limitations, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder. They place 6-10 dogs each year, with an 80% success rate for trained dogs being placed. Funds from PDF provide for the care and training supplies for the dogs in the program for a one-year period.
