Gabriel’s Angels delivers pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children, nurturing their ability to love and trust, thereby freeing them from the cycle of violence. Their goal is to use pet therapy visits to improve the emotional health and well-being of children and help them develop core behaviors- trust, affiliation, confidence, awareness, self-regulation, respect and tolerance Ð all precursors to preventing the cycle of violence. Based in Arizona, this non-profit organization is named for Gabriel, the first charter therapy dog. The “angels” are all the children, supporters and volunteers who team up to make the program a success. They have 160 registered Pet Therapy Teams, serving over 13,500 children annually through 115 partner agencies in Arizona, regularly visiting crisis nurseries, domestic violence shelters, group homes and homeless shelters. PDF funds support overall program operations, and the provision of specialized one-on-one services for children identified to have the greatest need.
